I did this for the neighbor who gave me the tree. It's my biggest bowl so far @ 4 3/4 x 17 3/4. The rim is about 1" going down in the bottom to about 1/2". I filled a couple of voids with turquoise and finished with lacquer. There was a little flame in this tree right at the heart so most was cut out. You can see some rust color that is actually orange in real life and there was a bit of that throughout. I did make the bottom kind of big, but the people who will use it, will be loading it down and I figured it would need the stability... they get quite rambunctious over there.:D Of course critiques welcome.

You did good Ernie-----everything from the form to the finish looks right to me. The filler is a nice touch also. Keep them coming and thanks for sharing.

Nice looking Bowl Ernie!! The curls and the flame highlights, along with the turquoise make it something to beatuiful to stare at. Hope they don't break it!!:D

Way to go Ernie. Now that is a nice looking bowl. It has nice curves and enough body to keep it on the table when the salad is being tossed.

Ditto's to everything the rest of the crew has said, Ernie. That filler is really a nice touch.

Yea, it was hard to find a stone that would fit that hole.

Thanks everyone for the nice words. This was the first box elder that I have turned and it was sure smooth going in the green. It was helpful in learning to take the bowl gouge from outside in... I'd been going from center to the rim which threw everything in me face:eek: Anyway, I just couldn't get it right before, and since have done several walnut and mesquite bowls from rim to center.

Thanks again

Ernie, that is one beautiful bowl ! Excellent all the way around. Glad to hear you got the hollowing technique worked out. The inlaid accents are a real nice touch. Should serve them well.

That'd be good, but I think it's going to be more like chips, nuts, snd whatever amount of Bud that might spill in it. ;) They are party people.:)

Thanks again everyone.
