A Backup Engineer

All is fair in love and war......
It’s the bills we pay that keeps us po’r.
We have a job as a Backup Engineer
Who sits in a seat and types with a snear.
Adjust those glasses and wipe those eyes,
Update the Collective to keep out the lies.
Replace that tape and fix that drive,
It’s successful backups that we do strive.
Work from eight to five as some may say,
Inform them now that there’s 24 hours in our day.
We work long hours as we plod along,
It’s each others shoulders that makes us strong.
Backups succeed and backups fail,
Come Monday morning, someone’s gonna pay hell.
Politics, politics everywhere,
Everyone here gets more than their share.
The stress and strain wreak havoc on your soul,
You’re physically worn down as if beat with a pole.
I just can't take this crap for very much more,
But it’s the bills we pay that keeps us po’r.
We sit and wait for the very next beep,
Not nere wink of a thing called sleep.
It’s mentally draining as soon you’ll see,
It’s a Backup Engineer that you will be.
Many are quick to point their finger,
It’s backup problems that seem to linger.
Open a ticket with the Unix team,
Dispatch hardware support to get on the scene.
It’s a stuck tape that’s kept you awake,
As you sit and dream of being at the lake.
We hope and pray for relief one day,
As we round up the bills we gotta pay.
Hurry, hurry and pass me another beer,
Can’t you see? I’m a Backup Engineer.
