I have been working on getting my pen inventory built back up.
Every once and a while I take the time to create a special pen.
This pen is made from Holly and Cherry.
Finish starts with Parks sanding sealer---Mylands---Crystal coat and the last touch --- TSW
I would guess something like 4 hours total work in this.
Hope you enjoy

Nicely tasteful. I like.

On the segmenting, Did you go with a random pattern or is there a specific design to that?

Think of a square blank---cut the flat top and bottom---then a X at a 45.
Let it dry and roll the blank over and cut another pair of 45's
I sneak into the wifes shop and use her scroll saw.

Nice looking pen. The last one I did that's similar didn't line up but it still raises questions of, "How'd you do that?" It's really nice.

Ray this one is better than my last one. I only cut one angle at a time. Glue in the Cherry and let it dry before I make the next cut. I kinda work it into my day and I can get one done in a day. There are six cuts in the top so if you only do one a hour it's not bad.

Really cool pen, Gary, but what is TSW?

TSW---Trade Secert for Wood.
It's a blend of waxs----that finall step.
You just wipe it on---let it sit for 45 seconds and wipe it off with a clean rag.---I do this on the lathe at a lower rpm.
Most of the pen suppliers sell it.---I think those folks down in Airizona have it.
I also use it to clean pens with after a show---gets those finger prints off the pens.

It's definitely a slow, deliberate process to make one of the celtic knot style pens. I've come close to getting one centered correctly but haven't hit the mark yet.

I use CA for my laminated pens so I don't wait an hour. The key is to match the thickness of your veneer with the thickness of your saw blade kerf. This keep things square. I use a sled on my band saw for cutting my blanks. Then after the glue up, drilling straight through the center of your pen blank is important.

Keep up the good work and be sure to post more pictures.
