I am getting the itch to build some turning tools. Also think I am going to order an P&N bowl gouge. Either way I need to turn some handles. Problem is I don't have much wood to chose from in my shop to make the handles from.

I have a little bit of Red Oak, some cypress (to soft), some green pecan and lots of maple. So given those choices sounds like the maple or the pecan for some handles? If I used the maple I would have to laminate it from 3/4" boards.

I do have some dogwood which I would use, but it's really spalted wood and I just hate to make handles with it. Otherwise it would be my first choice, and may yet be.

The pecan would make real nice tool handles.

Oak, pecan, maple, and dogwood would be good for handles.
