Here is the first out of the batch that me and My Little Lumberjack got:D
This one has some nice Red Flame and a little curl.
It measures 8 3/4 high X 5 3/4" tall
Finish is wipe on gel poly and buffed on the Beall.

Jim, this like all of your work is fantastic. But what I want to know is how do you come up with so much beautiful wood. You never seem to turn anything from 'just a hunk of wood'.

I think it might have something to do with single-handedly clearing all the forests on the Eastern Seaboard.

Rich, as far as I Know it has a very large growing range it shows mostly in the east from the far north to deep south.

Curt, I guess I'm just lucky, I have been fortunate in finding some nice figured woods. plus I don't get every piece of wood I come across most of the time I look at the wood and inspect the bark and under the bark. if it looks curly I cut into it to see whats inside, if it is I cut it up and throw it in the truck. if not I usually don't mess with it unless I have no wood to turn.
I make most of my turnings to sell very few I keep for myself.
This is the way I look at wood, it takes the same amount of time usually to turn figured and non figured wood. figured wood sells 10 times better than non figured, so I try to find the stuff that sells better if i can;)

I just roughed out a small bowl out of Box Elder this last weekend. After seeing your vase, I think my bowl will end up in the neighbors woodburner!!! :o There's just no way I could even begin to match your skills! That's gorgeous, Jim!!! :)
