I have been getting some comments from some that I have not been doing many bowls lately:o Mark,Mike,Travis,Keith So I decided to do the NE ash one and this Box Elder bowl just to show them I have not forgot how to make them;)
This one is loaded with curl and some red flame has a small amount of spalting and a small section of bark inclusion. I also have the core of this one and the NE ash one to finish.
This Bowl came from the first batch of BE I got back last summer, I still have a few nice blanks of this tree left, but I think I might let it spalt a little before I finish them.
It measures 11 1/4" wide X 4" tall finish is wipe on gel poly and buffed on the Beall.
I could not get all of the curl to show in the pics :(

Excellent, love the color of that bowl. Is the red tinges of color typical with Box Elder?

Corey,
the red streaks come from bug invaders much like ambrosia maple. In my experience, most BE doesn't have streaks in nature.

Thanks Guys for the Nice comments!

Corey

Corey It's not typical, just a guess but I say 1 out of 10-15 trees will have the markings you might find one and the next tree right beside will not have it.
I have found that the larger trees 24" and up usualy have better and more markings than smaller trees this one was solid red inside and was almost 4' thick. The smaller will just have a few flame spots and the pith will have some red.
Here is a pic of some of the load from that tree.
