This is a piece some of you may have seen either on WC or WoW a while back but I thought the Creekers might find it interesting
It's about 4" square and made from Bolivian Rosewood. No finish, just buffed. If I can figure out how to put more than one photo in a post you should see 2 views and a 3rd "different " view. Recognize it Ken F. ?;)

Nice work, Don. I avoid the 4-cornered whirling finger smashing blocks of death as often as I can. Glad to see someone do one so beautifully. That Bolivian rosewood (also known as Morado) is one nice dense piece of wood isn't it?:D

Wow, that is wonderful, something we don't see everyday! Beautiful wood!

Very nice work Don......I've tried a square platter before, but wound up with plenty of scraps, bruises and cut knuckles.

Very nice and way nice on the stand too.

Don....out of professional curiosity........that x-ray.....it's not an ap, it's not a pa......it's not a lateral.............would it be a TB? top to bottom?;) :D

Thanks everybody for the nice comments. It's only abot 4" square so the whirling corners of destruction were not TOO scary. And yes this wood is hard and dense!

I thought everyone had an Xray machine in their shop to check for nails, bugs, voids, whatever. No?? Hmmmmm...

Actually, it's what I do for a living. Xray, CAT scan, MRI. Even did a CAT scan of a Maple burl once just to see if it would work. The detail was amazing! I'm still waiting to try MRI-wood needs to be very wet though-green, fresh cut might work. (Have to wait for a Saturday though).

Is that done with just a square block, or is it more complicated than that? If not I might try that since I can only get boards in my woodshop class anyways.Very nice piece by the way, just using an octagonal piece for reverse turning I managed to cut myself up pretty good, did that piece manage to catch you?

Ken, you got it-TB ;)

Stephen, I did use just a single square block and I was fortunate not to get "bitten" by it. Lots of hand sanding with the lathe off.
