I've been wanting to do something sculptural for some time and really admire Clay Foster's work so I created the pictured piece. It's not on the grand scale or as elaborate as Foster's work but there was definitely some inspiration there.

The bowl is 10" in diamter by 4" tall of maple. The accent ring is burnished on each side. The base is 3 1/2" by 3 1/2" by 11" ipay with ebony accents. It's finished with danish oil.

I don't normally go for things that are too far out of the norm, but this one, I could easily put in my living room. Nicely, tastefully done Raymond. The bowl is wonderful!:)

They say that art is in the eye of the beholder. But if that was in your hand I'd say you would beholding a fine piece of art.

Thank you all for the comments and encouragement. I really appreciate the positive feedback and hope that if I post anything that's really horrible, you'd tell me about that too.

John, that's a great complement that you'd be willing to let it sit in your living room for everyone to see. I hope that the piece does what it was meant to and raises some funds for the library.

Thanks again.

If this is what you label an attempt, I can't wait to see you post something that you think you nailed! I think this one is great!!

Hey I like that, I think it is very nice, an I too would be happy to show that off in my house!

But, I must say it is not "Art", sorry..........

I have a Japanese friend that is an "Artist" and he tells me that the only way you can call it "Art" is if you price it so high that no one but the super rich will buy it!

Here I'll show you what I mean.......

That is my daughter Mizuki with some of this fellow's "Art".......

...and another......OK, he priced it at over $5000....... and someone bought it

thus, it is "Art"

My suggestion to you Raymond is charge an arm and a leg for it :D

All kidding aside, I do consider what you, and many, many others here as "Art", and I think it is all "Priceless!"

Cheers!

Well Stu, it's like I told the person who requested I donate this to the Friends of the Library auction, if it was just the bowl, it would be a $100-$150 bowl. If I attach it to the base, it becomes sculpture and should bring between $350-$500. Especially at a benefit auction.

The question is, will two people be there with their pocketbooks that can see what I see in it? Or is it just a bowl on a block of wood. I'll let everyone know what the outcome is. It's going to be interesting.

Raymond, I see you get the whole "Art" thing, this is good :D

Please keep us posted, I'll be waiting to see the results, and I DO like the piece!

Cheers!

You could have a proxy bidder and phone in your bid? Need me to set it up? :) You and John Hart could be my angel bidders with deep pockets!
