Okie Dokie....I went to Berea Hardwoods today and picked up some Redwood Burls. The nice thing about this stuff is that it is already dry and easy to turn, so I managed to get a bowl done today. This is 7" in diameter and 3" High...Finished with about 6 coats of cut clear shellac and buffed. I may hit it with a couple more coats later.

Oh...and someone snuck into the shop and took a picture of me with my camera!!

That sure is purrrrrrty, John! Magnificent piece of wood and you did it justice. :) Still, I'm a bit confused: You bought wood for turning?????  The King of Wood Scrounging actually paying for it??? (Well..., that's OK. It looks great!) :D

between the inside of the bowl and the broad edge. Very smooth. Makes me want to run my fingers over it a few times. I've tried this form variation myself but never get the proportions right....or the wood has it's own shape in mind. Thanks for the pics

Just love that Red wood burl John, great looking bowl.

I keep looking for one of those trees, they just don't grow next to the corn and beans.

I have turned a few pieces of redwood burl but none that had as rich a color as that piece. Well done, John. Pith helmet, indeed!!! Andy is overdosing on butterfat! Too much ice cream will make you null and void!:p

John,

The bowl turned out fantastic. The form you chose is really unique and I like it a lot. Judging from my taste alone, I really think this is one of your better pieces for sure.

btw.... I've never seen anyone mess up a wall any better than you have :p :D

Thanks everyone for your comments. I really enjoy working with the Redwood. It's a little dusty but its versatility is well worth the dust.

As far as my wall Bob....I've really grown attached to it!!! Almost painted it a couple times...but what good would that do??!!!!! :D

Pretty darn good for a guy with 9.67 fingers! Do you really brace your elbow against that pipe when sanding??:D

John, Great job on that bowl. I think that redwood burl is probably my favorite wood. Just beautiful. Wish we had some growing around here.
