Hi Everyone, I was looking at Drum sanders around 25" size and was wondering how much of a difference other than price there is between the single or dual systems. I saw a model made by Supermax Tools, model ShopPro 25 ,it looked like a well built unit($2600 Can) . Is this made buy Preformax? They sure look similar. What do you have?http://www.supermaxtools.com/t//machine1.gif (http://www.supermaxtools.com/catalog/item/2867389/2379833.htm)

With respect, I wouldn't buy either one you mentioned. I would lean more toward a Grizzly 24" or one like that type. I believe you would get far more bang for your buck. I know several wood workers, both professional and hobbyist who own them and like them very much. That is going to be my next tool purchase as well. I hope you find what you need.
Happy Sawdust,
Ron

What you see now as Supermax used to be part of the Performax line, but was "put down" awhile back. The brand (and tools) are back now under a different management group. Performax only has the open end units now...I own the Performax 22-44 Plus and am quite pleased with it but it is a single drum and not in line with what I think you want. Woodmaster might be worth a look for you.

I believe at the cost you mentioned (2600.00) you should look at the WoodMaster, extremely well built machine.

What are you planning to do with it?

As somebody who has disposed of a good quality dual drum unit because it just wasn't as useful as it should be my first reaction to the question is "None". My own experience shows me that almost any wide belt sander will do the job much better and in the same position I would save my pennies towards that end.

Check out the General International dual drum sander for about $1300 or so. I have one and really like it compared to the other three drum sanders I have owned. I got took at least two other times when I made the purchase. The GI machine is well built and does a lot of sanding for me in a short time. I probably manufacture around 100-125 rp doors each month and am very satisfied with the machine.
