Columbian Vise problem

Hi, I recently bought an old RD1 Columbian vise. I can only get the threads to turn about 3/4 of a turn as there are protuberances on the handle housing that prevents the handle from moving more than that. I have to believe that there is a way to make the handle turn all the way around. Can anyone help me out? Thanks, Mike:confused:

Is there any chance you could post a photo of the problem area? I have a feeling that there is something machined or cast wrong but it would be helpful to see an image to decide.JR
