I had wanted a variable speed router for some time now:eek: . I have had the Porter Cable 690 series with 3 bases & the edge guide that I caught on sale a little over 2 years ago:D . I have a Hitachi M12V that I got used but free & did some repairs on for less then 1/2 price of a brand new one for my router table:D . Well I don't think I got to bad of a price $143.00 for Porter Cable 690 variable speed fixed base router. I just like these routers & thought I'd get the variable speed one before they quite making them the new addition is the one on the right without dust. :D .

I know they are making a newer 890 series router but I have been very happy with the 690 series & what I have now should do everything I need for a long time. Now onto other tools............................................. .................... ;) :D

I have an M12 in my table and a 690 with the various bases. Its all you need. I love my 690. Great job.

Same here...an M12V for the table (it's new, and not yet mounted), a VS 690 and an older single-speed 690, and one each of the 690 bases. It seems to be a very workable combination so far.

Nice set-up Bart. I've also got an M12V in the table and have the 690 (no VS or extra bases though.) I've got the DW621 as my handheld plunge.

Bart, the addition of the VS 690 to your arsenal is a good move. It really opens up more opportunities to use the router...and safely. And with all three bases, you're set for any situation, too!

So Bart, can we safely assume you kinda' like the PC routers??? :D I've just got a single-base 1-speed 690 but, I do like it. And yes, of course, the M12 in the router table!!! :) Nice score(s)! :)
