Here is a picture of a pen made from very punky spalted hackberry treated with EM with dye added. I used Transtint Bordeaux dye added to the EM and to soak the blank then let it cure, drilled and turned. I don't really care for the pen but this was done mainly to show the effect of adding dye to the EM mix. The cream area is the only solid wood in this blank and therefore, did not have any penetration of the EM. Let me know what you think!

Beautiful. Looks almost like you used some gold leaf on it.

So....Dye and EM DO mix!!! That settles it. Ya know, it looks just like the store-bought dyed burls. Great job Curtis....Nice lookin' pen too!!!

If you really dont like it and it bothers you to have such an ugly thing in your collection, I will realive your burden, just send it to me...
Seriously though, I love it! To dye yarn you have to have 100% wool, I did it once with an acrylic wool mix, and it was so cool cause the wool dyed and the acrylic didnt. I guess I should have been a hippie cause I like the swirly tie died colors.

Very nice Curtis. I've never turned a pen intitionally. I usually start with a spindle and drive a piece of lead in the end when it's to small to do anything else with it.

Hey Curtis, great pen. Unique. You may have been experimenting but you have something special there.
