View Full Version : Question about preserving burl

I've been looking into the zillions of products out there for preserving wood. It has me confused to a point where I thought I should ask you folks at sawmill creek for advice.

The burl has been cut now for nearly 3 months, I have a lot of the spalt removed from the inside. The outside bark is mostly removed.

My concern is that if I don't apply a preservative, it'll turn grey and possibly crack.

I have a lot of sanding to do still so whatever I apply can't interfere with that. I'd like to eventually finish it with a product that will bring out the natural colour.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Just goop it all over with a sealant like armorseal or wax (parafin). That will keep it from drying too fast but, burl is burl, and eventually it may split when cut into veneers.

Pentacryl is what you want.
