I can't find the thread where I said I'd post a picture of this pen, so here goes. Another site has what we call "The Pen in the Hat" pen swap each year. This is a picture of my offering.

It is made from Rose Corian, Ebony, Redheart, and Wenge, in that order from the tip to center and reversed to the clip. By making your own centerband, you can make a slimline look like a cigar pen.

Thanks for looking.

Bruce;)

I had some trouble before, too, John. This is a Slimline with 7mm tubes.

What I do now is:

Drill the blanks to 7mm, install the tubes and mill them.

Whatever I'm using for the centerband is drilled out to 1/4" ( the diameter of the mechanism).

I turn the blanks down to a point where they are just into the area where the mill squared up the blank.

Next, I replace the center bushing with the wood centerband and sandwich it snugly between the two blanks.

Finally, I turn all three pieces to the final dimentions and finish them together.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bruce. I don't use a pen mill but I think I get the point. I think I'm just doing everything in the wrong order. I'll give your method a try.
