this is a test piece it is maple i turned it and then drilled 1/2 "holes and then glued in pieces of colored acrylic rod
finished with tru-oil

Hi Chris

I have done a few of these. They are a lot of fun. I like the way the light makes the acrylic dots glow.

Some options to consider:

You can turn little rods from acrylic pen blanks to use in the turnings.

You can glue the rod in before you turn the bowl.

If you drill the holes at an angle to the eventual finished surface the acrylic will be an oval. The direction of the drilling will be the long deminsion of the oval.

There are loads of options with the acrylic inserts. I like this experiment and I look foreword to where you take this.

I like it, but I would also like to see one with just one color. I think if you had done it with only red acrylic it would really pop.
