Has anybody seen a source for edge banding c clamps. I have one and don't know where I got it. I've tried HF and several other sources, but can't seem to find them. I've got a project that will require solid wood edge banding on an irregular shape, and I think they will do the trick. Any suggestions?
TIA

Harbor freight also has a larger one than the one Vaughn found.

These look identical to the ones that woodworker supply sells but at a much better price.

Hope this helps.

I've also got a couple of your C-type from somewhere I dont remember. I was able to find this after a couple of Google tries.

Thanks guys. I had seen the ones at HF and other places but frankly, I'm going to need about 20 of these and was hoping to find them a little cheaper than that.:o I'll probably only need that many for only this one job. I like the idea of using c clamps and wedges. I have plenty of those and that could do the trick. Thanks for your help.

These type of clamps look neat, but every source I've seen has them for a tremendously expensive price. I like Tod's suggestion for the standard clamps with the wedges.

I got about 30 cheap 3-way C-clamps from HF many years ago for about $3 each. They look like a regular C-clamp but have three acme threaded screws.

They work pretty good, but are clumsy to use because you need to first tighten the upper and lower screws such that the remaining adjacent screw is centered along the edge that you are gluing on. You also need to use some scrap wood to prevent the screws cups from marking the wood.

I don't see them on the HF site, but I bet they are somewhere. Sad to say, this is the only thing from HF that worked OK and that I still have.

The clamps you are looking appear to be clones of the ones that sell for 10 times more. It's gotta make you wonder how good they are. There's nothing worse than fumbling with crummy clamps during a heptic glue up.

I bought 4 of those 10.00 edging clamps a few years ago, was wanting the good ones, at 60.00 a whack, but bought the cheaper ones.
Thats what they are. Cheap.
Waste of money. Went back to c-clamps and wedges.

Lou, if you use Bessy clamps, they make an attchment that works pretty well. Amazon sells them for $12.95 each.

I use C-clamps & wedges.Bart,
I am curious as to how the c-clamps and wedges work - can't seem to picture it.

Here is a picture of what I've been using. I was getting them for about $3 each, but I can't find them on the HF site anymore. The ones shown here are available from Grizzly at 4 for $20.50. Jorgensen also has something similar, but lighter in duty for around $13 each.

I saw an note in a magazine about cutting a roughly 3" by 4" piece of ply. Then cut a dado fairly deep in the ply the same width as the wood you are banding. cut your banding the same thickness; slide the clamp blocks over the banding and backing board and then just use regular clamps. The width of the dado will align the banding.

Ask Craig about his Bowclamps, possibly they would be superior and save you a bunch of money to boot.

Lou,
You might be able to use something like this.

http://images.rockler.com/rockler/images/60545-lg.jpg

The Rockler verion is only $10 and can clamp up to 15 feet, Bessey has one that can clamp up to 24 ft and is $40.

Just a thought

That was my first thought too, Keith...but then I noticed Lou was trying to glue an irregular edge. Would the Bowclamp work in that application?

Lou,

They had bunches of them at Lowes, made in China of course, for Jet. Very nice clamps. I think they were in the 9 dollar range.

Your right Vaughn, I missed the irregular shape part of Lou's message.
