Good Morning to everyone.

I hope everyone had a good weekend and it just came and went.

Friday was a day off and I spent 1/2 the day getting the Robland out and on it's way to Joe Blankenshain (new owner). I know I said that I wouldn't ship, but Joe talked me into it ;) so I did. Lesson learned? You NEED a forklift for stuff this big and heavy!!!!:o

Friday night was spent cleaning up the shop some more.

Saturday was spent cleaning up the shop some more and more and more. And I spent some time working on my music for Sunday morning at church.

Sunday? Church and played bass guitar for both services. Came home and worked at work for about 4 hours to help a fellow teammate out and then it was back in the shop for more cleaning.

Do you get the slight hint that I've been busy with shop cleaning? Well, since the Robland X31 is now gone, I need to purchase a new planer and jointer. So, hopefully those two Powermatic pieces will be on the way this week. STEALTH GLOAT!!!!

So what did YOU do this weekend?

Best of weeks to you all.

Spent most of Saturday designing and building a wooden top for my grinder stand that would allow proper functioning of my Wolverine grinding jigs. Saturday evening took the LOML out for supper to celebrate her birhtday.

Sunday, finished mounting the top. Ground some steel. Made the first model of my new turning product line. Dennis didn't like it?............

Sunday evening practiced applying finish to a turning using Myland's friction polish. Worked late in the shop playing with the Bomb.

Spent Saturday working on 3D CAD. Saturday afternoon I cut the project I created. Lots of fun but I still like making bowls on the lathe better. It would have been hard for me to make this one on the lathe so I guess making bowls on the Shopbot has its place.

Spent Friday Afternoon and all day Sunday at Milwaukee Woodworking show. I am completely "sold"(but didn't buy anything yet) on Sommerfeld's tongue and groove system and pocket hole system for building cabinets. Has anyone had any "negatvies" to say about his system? Also found out from the Dewalt/Porter Cable reps that I need to take in my 892 PC router and my 735 Dewalt Planer for factory service. 2 tools out for a while. That doesn't seem right. Hopefully the factory service center will turn them around quickly. It's amazing how much you come to rely on each tool for a project (and I am a hobbyist). Don't try to talk me into planing my boards by hand either. Not sure I am that good of a WW.

Also spent all day Saturday helping kids make pinewood derby cars at our church. We have an annual "Boy Scout" type pinewood derby, but many kids don't have dad's that will help them build a car, so me and a couple of guys haul our scroll saws, dremel tools, benchtop drill presses and sanders to our church basement and we have an afternoon of "start to finish" car building workshop. Lot's of fun to see kids create their own thing. They draw it up and we help them cut it.

I got quite a lot of shop time this weekend and I think it was productive.

I found some scraps of yellow poplar left over from the bowsprit on the sailboat. Most of the scrap was a hair under 1/2" thick and glued up from three pieces to about 4" wide. I planed it down until is was smooth and then started a little wall cabinet with a drawer. Dovetails at the case and drawer corners, false front on the drawer. Glued up a couple of peices of this stuff to make the back panel and found enough solid stuff to glue up for a slab door. Still have to fit the door but it is coming along. This yellow poplar has a lot of sapwood and the heart is very green. I suppose I'll let it sit in the sun after I'm finished sanding and let the green work itself out.

Sorry, Tyler, no pictures yet.

Spent a long weekend with LOML at a B&B/Day Spa about 1-1/2 hours from home. I did a some looking at the nearby antique malls for old tools, but didn't find anything worth bringing home. Other than that we spend the weekend relaxing. I did spend a couple hours last night sharpening my new chisels.

Awesome WWing weekend for me. Wife and kids were out of town at MIL's house and spent 90% of the time in the shop. I managed to complete the milling of about 95% of rail and stile parts for about 30 raised-panel-doors. Both I and my planer got a workout this weekend. I wanted to head out to Hearne Hardwoods to pick through their pile for some tasty nuggets but never made it out there.

Saturday...
- ripped the carpet + pad out of the boys room. vacuumed, pulled staples, pounded nails... and around 4:30 thought I would lay "just a few" strips of laminate flooring to see how it would look, and for practise. A little after 9:30 and the 12x12 room was almost finished - one row left that needed to be ripped down from the full width - including fiddling with the short pieces for the closet + cutting the door trim.
- for some reason I felt rather sore when I tumbled into bed at night...

Sunday...
- Taught Sunday school for my sons 1st grade class. In the afternoon spent some fun time in the shop ripping lots of thin strips and glued up 3 cutting boards. Two are mostly maple with some jatoba/walnut accent strips. One is Cherry with Maple strips. Hopefully I'll get some time this week to plane them down.

Spent most of Saturday afternoon/early evening working on my shop. Sunday afternoon, more of the same. Been trying to finish this building up for a few months now. Got some cabinets hung (old kitchen take-outs) and finally enclosed the walls around my new (never been fired up) cyclone. Ductwork is probably next for me. It will be nice to use it and escape the major dust farm that exists in my shop now. No Tyler, no pics here either. I'm not too sure my shop would warrant pics anyway. I have always wanted to do some woodworking and decided that if I don't start it now I likely never will, so I at least have a shop under construction. It is a 16' by 24'.

Lounged around sat afternoon after work. Sunday I moved the reails on my Ridgid 3612. Now have 52 1/2" rip to right of saw! Finished the PDA holder and glued the felt in. Looks like it will work great. Watched a little of the final Olympic hockey game. Was rooting for the boys from the Stars (Finland), but it didn't happen. Had forgotten my wife was to be in Mckinney for a Agility Trial most of the day, so that kept me close to the house keeping an eye on the dogs. One of the foster dogs did spend some time with me in the shop. Kept trying to steal things to take to the back yard to chew on. :D
Have a good week! Jim.

Good news. I Got the new General tablesaw leveled. Aligned the JessEm Mast-R-Slide properly. Finished overhauling my old Jet Contractor saw, then leveled and aligned it to act as the outfeed table for the General tablesaw. Built a transition table to join the two saws together. Looks sweet, I hope it works as planned.

Bad news. I tripped over the kerosene heater and tested the anti tip feature. It worked, but the kerosene heater still spilt some fuel, and filled the shop with black smoke. :( . No real damage, except to my pride, and some brain cells.

Well, I delivered the desk and had bring it back home! There was a communication error between us and the desk was 1 1/2" short! Not a big deal. I already have the the sides extended 1 1/2". I used pocket screws to attach it from the inside. I will re-paint it tomorrow. Re-delivery is set for next Sunday.

Began my current timberframe project by milling all timber for it.

Converted 24 board feet of 1x6 lumber into 8,952 board feet of timber - in scale, that is.

Spent the better part of Friday evening fluting and chamfering some table legs. I finally got them done! I had to make up some gage blocks to set the router table fence, and run several samples just to make sure I got what I liked (not too deep - not too shallow), and got it right (perfectly equidistant).

The wife and I spent Saturday adding some last minute blocking and hanging drywall in the basement bath. BTW we used the new paperless mold and moisture-resistant drywall. The Drywall is a little harder to work with, becasue it doesn't "snap". It's got fiberglass re-enforcement in the core.

I spent Sunday hanging the remaining drywall pieces, and got it taped, and the first coat of mud on. I used strait-flex (http://www.straitflex.com/) fiberglass tape for the corners. The strait-flex is really nice for doing corners, the best product I've ever used for corners so far, and again, no paper, no mold.

While I was mudding, the wife finished up the trim on the stair landing. She did a real good job of it. I only had to make one little filler piece because of the complex angles.

Finished doing taxes Saturday morning, pretty much vegged out all afternoon.

Most of Sunday was spent taking "Lathe 101" at Woodcraft. Six hours of standing on bare concrete floor in what turned out to be the wrong shoes, so of course my stupid dog wanted to take a longer-than-usual walk this morning. Arrgghh!

Well, I kinda had an off weekend without too much to do for customer orders. Thank goodness, I am about had with all that I've been doing trying to keep up with the part time business and the full time job.:D I did 16 doors, 2 end panels, 11-14' sticks of crown molding, and 11- 14' strips of decorative molding. Still managed to put out more than $500 dollars worth.:)

In the slack time me and my wife went running around looking for a new camper (as if I have time to camp) and a new jon boat. We spent more time together this weekend than we have in several months. About time.

I figured I had 3 or 4 hrs. of work left on the beds for the boys. About an hr. to sand the sealer. About an hour per coat for spraying the paint and cleaning the gun. An hour total for final assembly and setup (although there will be some glue drying time involved also).
Well, I got about an hour in the shop. So ... ready to spray. My 6 year old came down and helped for as long as his attention span could stand (20 minutes or so  ). That was fun.
Hopefully a little warmer weather later in the week will make spraying more enjoyable anyway  .

Spent Friday night, Saturday, Sunday morning and evening replacing the vinyl floor in our mud room with tile. These thing always take longer than I want/they should! Went to the woodworking show during the midday Sunday. I enjoyed that greatly, beats spreading thinset! Bought some dovetail bits and ZCI.

Also took a break on Saturday night to watch my son play indoor soccer.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Began making room for the Robland X31, I bought from from Dennis Peacock, on Saturday and completed the task on Sunday. Spent some quality time with the LOML this weekend so that I can work in the shop next weekend almost exclusively. She is an amazingly patient woman that tolerates my persistent nagging for another cold beverage while I am watching NYW from the sofa.

Finished up an adjustable brace setup to help support the router table extension on my table saw. (I'll post a couple pics later in a separate thread.) Continued working with the finish on a pool cue case I have in progress, and spent some time working out how to mill the fitted interior of the case. Also made a trip to Rockler to pick up a few supplies.

Spent a fair amount of time this weekend helping out LOML around the house, who was down with a cold. The rest of the weekend was spent vegging, reading or watching the Olympics.

Made and installed the doors on the TS router table and cabinet I'm working on. I made them with baltic birch frames and acylic panels.

Finished installing a dust collector on my drill press.

Installed a 4' florescent light fixture over my work bench & installed an adjustable arm magnifying light off the back of the bench. It's nice being able to read the fine print on packages and cans!

Made a new ZCI for my table saw. I've been using the MJ splitter, which I like a lot, but I've found that removing the splitter was damaging the prongs on the splitter. Of course, they won't sell you just the splitter, so I decided to create a ZCI that doesn't use the splitter for when I'm cutting grooves or dados. This way I won't break the splitter trying to remove it.

Our tennis team won the first round of our mixed doubles playoffs - so we'll be playing again next weekend.

My weekend was spent working as I have thur/fri as days off from the real job. So, for my weekend I spent working on drafting out the partition walls and soffits that I'll be building for my shop space renovation. I started, but didn't get too far, on the beginning of the lighting and electrical plan. Spent the late afternoon/evenings of both days with the family (homework, chatting, and watching our favorite tv shows).

Friday night my neice arrived to spend the weekend with her aunt (LOML) and my step kids. She needed a change of scene from the college crowd. They had a blast shopping, socializing and just hanging out all weekend. Since I was on the night shift this week, I mostly spent the mornings with those that were awake.

No true shop, so no true shop time  But that will eventually change :)

Saturday morning was spent helping hang sheetrock in my neices house, that afternoon the LOML and I went to see our youngest and his wife soon to be new home. Its small but really a nice place (man I'd hate to be starting alll over again!!).

Sunday we went and visited with my Mom for tha biggest part of the day, got a couple hours of shop time in that evening and began milling material for a porch swing.

Hello fellow Creekers,

For once I was able to achieve most of what I had planned for the weekend. I got the shop all cleaned up and began a major re-organazation plan. When completed, I hope to sell off a few un-needed tools and replace or upgrade those with tools that will be used more for the way I want to work in the future. With limited space in my small shop, I have to make every square inch of real estate count.

I had a great weekend, but due to rain I only spent about 30 minutes on woodworking. I cut some dovetail tails, and that was about it.

I can see I need to make a mini-bench for indoor use.

I had fun tearing out a shower-surround in our master bath and putting plaster on the walls where the old glue tore off the paper from the sheetrock. Of course, after I skin coated the paper, it started releasing from the other paper, so I tore off the wet and newly skim-coated paper and got down to more brown paper. Probably water damage due to the cracked surround that I removed....

Like the man said, nothing is as easy as it should be! :(

I did at least spend the time waiting on the new plaster to dry to finish a few of these jewelry boxes that I had been working on. I really like the organic shape. I've made some jigs to help with the cutting of the tops on the router table. Got tired of having tops thrown back at me!

Well my G0490 arrived Thursday, but it was Saturday before I could start to move it to my basement shop. I got the base and the lighter items moved down. I had to wait until to Sunday to get the rest down. Then I began to assemble. I still need to finish hooking up duct work and also need to get a 220v plug. I headed to Toronto today, so I decided to spend the rest of the time with family.

I got some good, quality shop time. Saturday I finished cutting out the pieces for a wall clock. (Seems like i'm making a career out of one project:rolleyes: ) Sunday I made some ZCI for the table saw, then cleaned up the shop a bit. Finally, an old friend stopped buy to watch the race.

All in all, a great week-end!!!!!!!

Got only a little time in the shop this weekend. I spent it moving some turning stock upstairs to the new shelving, making a small band-saw box "the hard way" with a 1/2" blade :) (pics later) and stripping the finish from a turned box from awhile ago that I screwed up royally.
