Hello,

Here are two simple maple memory boxes I made this week. They are made from some scraps of figured maple I had in the “Maybe” box in my shop. We all have that “Maybe “ box, you know the one, with cut offs to precious to discard, just in case……Maybe you can do something with them.

The lids are also from the same box, they are lacewood trimmed with a curly cherry pull edge.

The other night while working a flat project I found a piece of maple square stock and made this in an hour.

The basic box is a mitered candle box, with my concept of a sliding lid, from the side rather than the end.

The finish is several coats of Watco Natural, a few wipe on poly coats and a final rubbed out finish with a wax finish.

They are about 10 inches by 5 inches……and they were a great way to get some lovely wood out of the shop.

Take care,
Jim

I like the boxes, and I especially like the way you integrated the sliding lid. Slick Idea, nice wood, great craftsmanship. I is also nice to see someone use their miter saw :)

Nice work Jim...
It's always nice to find something worthwhile to make out of scrap. This one is an excellant example of creative work.

Those boxes were born from the infamous "Maybe" Bin, but there is no maybe about them.....................they are Fantistic! Nice design idea, the sliding lid is a very neat idea.........I had never thought of incorporating a sliding lid into a box quite like that, but I really like how it works out. I will have to keep that concept in mind for future reference! ;) Great contrast in wood as well, and the finish looks great. Nice work Jim, thanks for sharing! I am kinda partial to boxes, don't ya know! :D

Great boxes Jim! You just never know what may be lurking in the "maybe box". I too, like the sliding lids. Might have to try that myself.

Nice job Jim,I like the lid idea and if you don't mind may try it myself. One question did you the make the lid like a raised door panel? Halsey
