This Oak was rough turned last May and has been setting in a dark
corner waiting til I got a better chuck. Got the new Talon so I
finish turned it Saturday. As I got into it I noticed a big ole Face
looking back at me from both sides of the bowl! It's 17" x 4"
with one coat of BLO to pop the grain, A few cracks were filled
with coffee grounds, first time to use coffee grounds. I haven't
decided on the final finish yet, would appreciate some ideas for that.
Mounted up, then reversed chucked with the #3 Jaws that Glen sent
me:32828 32830

Bottom finished turned:
32831

When I was sanding I thought for a minute that the swirls
around the eyes and walls were sand marks but they are
swirls in the wood...

Face inside the bowl:
32833

Face on the bottom of bowl:
32834

Beautiful, Mike.

There is ALWAYS a wood sprite there, you were lucky enough to get it to show it's face.

Nice work Mike, that is a pretty piece. Don't know how you found a piece of wood with the face of a dog wearing glasses. Ahhhh... the smell of exotics!

Thanks everyone! I thought of the same things, Man-in-the-moon,
Wolf, Pig & that wierd looking big headed character in the movie
Ice Age..
Glen, It's local to me so my guess is Post Oak or Live Oak.
When I asked the guy who gave it to me he just said Oak!
