Well I got a piece of Honduran Mahogany in Saturday and it was like a dollar bill burning a hole in my pocket. Couldn't wait to try it. So today I put it on lathe. It was 8 1/4" square and 2 3/8" thick. Anyway it is dry and so could turn it to size. Mahogany turns like a dream and sands well. I had a mistake on it but didn't see it until the finish was on. I will learn to look it over a little closer next time. Getting easier after each one. Used the Sorby Hollowing/Shear Scraper to do the sides inside. Worked out well.

Forgot to say I sanded to 800 grit, used EEE-Ultra Shine and then Mylands friction polish.

What do you think?

Wow! That is a great bowl. Nice job with the finish. I want to make one like that to replace the GLASS (gasp!) bowl I keep my walnuts in now. Keep up the good work.

Very nice Bernie:) :) Nice form and finish. I always have one mistake that I leave on anything I turn, that way I can identify it if somebody steals it:D :D

Thanks everyone for the comments. The bowl was a lot of fun to turn. It was dry wood. I really like turning mahogany. It is one nice turning wood. It is super. I ended up putting about 3 coats of lacquer on it cause the wife wants to use it one the table for like a candy dish.

Nice shape, Bernie. That mahogany does look good, doesn't it?
I can't find your "flaw" either. You can try some mineral spirits, or DN alcohol wiped on after sanding and before finishing. An old cabinet maker trick to reveal sanding flaws before commiting to a finish.
If the "flaw" is on the outside of the bowl, perhaps it's time to make some large wooden jaws (or buy the aluminum ones if you have the budget) so you can re-turn or sand out the offending spot.
