Soft maple with a stain mixed up to closely match the kitchen cupboards. Slate floor tile added to fireplace and firebox sits on a 2x6 and OSB base. I sprayed the pieces with satin lacquer using my old plastic Wagner fine coat hvlp turbine gun :D .

Very nice Bryan. Excellent work. Did you make the fluted columns or purchase them pre-fabbed?

Thanks Vaughn ! I turn the ends,& turn a large 3.5" dowel and use a beading bit in my laminate trimmer, using a homemade stand on the General 260-1 with indexing head, gives 24 beads. Lee Valley sells the beading bit with double bearing. A 7/8 dowel connects the parts. If you go to the bottom of the post click on the old related thread "Oak fireplace mantle progress pics" by me for pics of the set up.:D
