This is the table clock I've been working on the past couple of weeks for my wife's nephew. Made from cherry and based on plans from Woodsmith #49. This is my first time working with cherry and wasn't real sure on a finishing regimine, what I went with was a liberal application of BLO, wiped on a couple of coats of 1# cut garnet shellac then top coated with 6 coats lacquer and then buffed out.

Very cool, David. The finish looks great, and I especially like the fluted columns and the little drawer for the winding key.

I like! Is the top a solid piece or built-up? Where'd you get the clock movement?

The top is built up from two pieces, the movement is from Klockit #13010. I bought two of these three years ago on sale gave 140.00 for both and built a clock just like the one posted out of walnut been saving these for a design I have in the back of my head but this wedding slipped up on me and didn't want to take the time of making design prototypes so I went with these again. The clock work are now 170.00 ea.!!

Everyone-

Klockit is a great source for movements. While I don't know of all the sources, their site---www.klockit.com -- is pretty definitive.

Just got a cheap quartz movement from them--works great, and the instructions were very adequate.

If I were to foolish enuf to try and build a mega-grandfather clock, their offerings of high-end movements would be my choice.

Tip: The S&H portion of the cost was more than the price of the movement.

David,

That is a very fine piece of work. I have made many clocks and that is an excellent piece.
