Porter Cable style guide bushings on a Bosch 1617 router

Does anyone here use a Bosch 1617 router with a PC 4212 dovetail jig?

I was reading info about the 4212 and it says that it requires a router with PC style guide bushings. My 1617 came with 3 guide bushings. Does anyone know if the Bosch bushings are ok to use with the 4212 jig?

If all else fails, I can buy these (http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?FamilyID=1392) at Woodcraft, and make my own plexiglass base. Are they the correct ones?

I have the 4212 jig. It comes with two (the delux model) guide bushings. They are made for the PC router. I have a Hitachi router that I use for the jig since it needs a 1/2" collet. The bushings work perfect with the Hitachi. I had to make a small "collar ring" out of plate steel so I could use the bushing on my other off-brand router. It was very difficult to get the screw holes exactly on center so the bushing will be centered on the bit but several tries later I got a good result.

This may not be the answer you are looking for but hope it helps just a little.

You may want to go to a store that carries both the Bosh and CP router and compare, maybe take the bushing with you and see if it will interchange.

There are some kits that have universal bases. But be carefull cos I bought one and it doesnt fit my Hitachi.

If you measure the outside dia. of the Bosch bushings and if they are the same as the P-C you are O.K..

A couple of years back I bought a bushing kit for my 1617 and it had about six bushings and had an adapter for the P-C type bushings. Maybe Bosch sells the adapter alone. Also, I think there are aftermarket people that sell router bases that sometimes include P-C template bushing adapter.

Question for you: I bought a 4212 on the big Amazon sale. I saw a post here where someone said they got Whiteside bits with the kit. Mine had P-C bit that have had reports of having early failures. What brand of bits did yours come with?

I believe Leigh sells an adapter for the Bosch that will allow use of PC guide bushings.

You can do what I did to solve this problem: get a new base for your 1617 from the routerman - Pat Warner. He will drill it to fit the PC bushing if you request it.

You need: Bosch RA1100 threaded bushing adapter. I've been using it for a while and it makes all standard guide bushings fit like a glove. It is also quickly removable if you need the extra clearance for wide bits.

The Bosch part number is RA1110. It is a guide adapter that allows the use of PC guides. I bought one locally awhile back for around $13.

I use a Pat Warner base also. Works well, though I haven't tried it on a dovetail jig.

You could make your own base but be advised that you have to have the center hole drilled dead on or else your dovetails will be off. Ordering one from Pat is the easiest and an absolute solution to your problem.

I recently ordered a "scratch and dent" :eek: Pat Warner base plate from Big Leroy's to adapt mine for PC bushings. Found it on that nameless auction site for $6.99.

I'll echo what a few others have said about Pat Warner's bases on a 1617. I just installed one the other day and have already used it to cut dovetails on my Leigh D1600. Works like a dream.
