I moved long distance for a new job. I know the rules about specific deductible expenses during the actual move, but what about the period of time required to sell the house in my old location?
Company gave me an allowance for moving, but paid nothing to sell/buy houses. I had to move immediately for the new job and move into an apartment. It took 6-mos to get the house sold.
Are any of the expenses of maintaining 2 households deductible? I see the IRS disallows losses on the sale of the house for a move, but the rules seem to think you have a nice clean sale, then move, then set up new home with no overlap.
