Kinda tough from that picture, but my first reactions are either Oak or Ash..

Oak, Ash...or maybe even pine. Looks like flat sawn lumber or flat sawn veneer or rotary cut veneer. If it's sheet goods, most likely oak.

It reminds me of an old computer table we had which was made of construction plywood from home depot. It had a dark stain on it too and the rings were really dark and pronounced like in the picture.

I'll "guess" fir. Looks alot like most of my trim in the old farmhouse I live in!

I'll go with fir as well.

I made a bunch of white pine trim stained very dark to match a billiards table and when I used some SPF 1x to try and cheap out in a couple spots it stained just like the photo.
