Well got another box turned today and this one went a lot faster and easier than the first one. I was so tickled with the finale on top because I did it all with a skew. I watched Raffan's video again and thought what the heck. Worst case I would just cut it off and best case it would work. It is made from spalted Beech. Anyway here it is.

Bernie I've got a lot of work to do to catch up. Very nice box indeed. Did you use tape to hold the top to the bottom while turning?

Well done Bernie, one day you and that skew are going to become old friends. Just keep working with it, it will teach you a lot, if you allow it to.

Good job, Bernie. You are turning out (no pun intended) to be a natural. Keep it up with the skew, I'm sure you're finding it a most valuable tool.

Thanks for all the kind words. I was almost afraid to use the skew after hearing people cuss it. It just a matter you have to watch what you are doing and only have one end or the other in the wood and find the sweet spot.

Very cool Bernie! Nice work on the finial. I use my skew for lots of things (maybe some things I shouldn't! ) But, you're right...the approach is everything and the detail that can be achieved is very rewarding. Well worth taking the hard knocks and learning it. nicely done!:)

Bernie,

Nice looking box and great figure in the wood. We are going to have to nickname you "box boy."

It seems that each one is better and prettier than the last. That means you need to keep up the turning and the pics. Great work! doug

Thanks again for the kind comments. That is the plan for now. New ideas and keep improving. Boxes are a lot of fun and I just ordered Raffans video on box turning.
