Headstock spinning

The headstock on my HF lathe semms to be spionning off balance, slightly but it was noticable when I started to do some face plate turning. What can cause this type of problem generaly? Bent drive shaft?

It's probably the faceplate not the spindle. Was it noticeable with a center in the spindle?

Is the blank perfectly round, is it centered on the face plate?

Well it appears to just be the face plate that is causing my problems. The spindle of the head stock seems to spin balanced and true. Thanks for the advice, it kept me from tearing the lathe apart and really screwing it up.
