I see these things at several vendors and suggest they're good for use with diamond lapping paste. Do they hold up or does the lapping paste wear hollows in them?

Not sure this is relevent, if not sorry for the intrusion.

I was looking for a flat glass plate to help sharpen chisels. I was going to buy the componets of a "scary sharp" system. I found a local cabinet shop that cuts out the sinks in granite counter tops. They were all to glad to give me the cut out. It's very flat, smooth, and wet sandpaper sticks to it just fine. If it gets "unflat" I think you'd get another one just as cheap.

Good Luck.... Ken

If you don't have a granet cabinet top place handy, you can also go to a Lowes or HD and purchase a 12" X 12" granet floor tile. Flat, smooth and not very expensive for one piece.
