I haven't been neglecting my turning so these are submitted for your enjoyment....

I got both blocks from Mike Mastin/Curly Woods. This was my 1st turn of mesquite. Loved the smell of mesquite and cherry is always nice, too.

Yes, the cherry burl had 2 worms. Neither lived. Between stabilizing the worm tunnels and the cracks/checks in the mesquite, I used up about 3/4 a bottle of CA. Bonded myself twice. The CA bottle has a split cap and I forgot about it twice. I used the Bill G. compression chuck for finishing the bowl bottoms.

Hi Chip, they are both very nice bowls, you did quite a nice job.

What are there sizes? Do you use dove tail jaws on your chuck to turn your bowls?

Thanks for showing your work,

Bill.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>:)

I knew I forgot something: Cherry bowl is 2 3/4"H x 5 7/8"W....Mesquite is 4 1/8"H x 6 3/4"W.

I have a Nova Mide and a SuperNova2 chuck and both use dovetail grips. Both of these bowls were turned using a dovetailed tenon grip that I cut to depth with my parting tool and then dovetailed the tenon with a super sharp 3/8" spindle gouge. My shop built plywood compression chuck allows me to remove all traces of of the tenon and leave a little foot (or none at all if unwanted).

Yep...I sneak out on Friday night and Saturdays. I've turned a very small red oak bowl from our wood hunting trip. I left it unsealed to see if it would warp badly. It's oval shaped. For grins, I'm going to try to finish turn it sometime assuming I can be it back on the chuck.

I did start seriously on my 1st HF from Sweet gum. It's 7 1/2"H x 6 3/4"W. Took about 4hrs to hollow it out using my gooseneck Hollowmaster.

Chip those are some mighty fine looking bowls. I want to try mesquite one of these days. They say you can turn it to the final size even green and it won't move.

Very nice bowl's Chip. Gotta get me some of that mesquite. You need a bottle of tequila to put the little wormy's in. They make a real nice protein boost in a shot glass

Both very nice, the tall one edges out the shorter one just by a hair, IMHP

Very nice, very nice, indeed

Nice bowls Chip. I've got to get to Dallas and visit Mike. Bernie, it (Mesquite) still moves but not much. Jim, you buy the Tequila (mesqual) with the worm already in it, then the guy who has the last drink gets to eat the worm.

Gregg it is a chuck that you can build out of plywood. Look on Bill's website for the plans wonderfulwooddotcom.
