This is from the crotch of the tree. It's 7" x 13". I really messed up when I cut the blank. I wasn't thinking and had one side way to tall... it was top heavy with a small foot, so I had to remove the foot and leave the bottom a little thicker than usual, but at least it wont tip over now.:o Of course any critiques welcome.

Quite a nice bowl Ernie, some outstanding features are reflected. I see the mountains as well, I also see the dreaded vortex beginning to form at just about 3 o'clock.

Your doin that Walnut up mighty proud.

I'm a sucker for anything walnut but that bowl, sir, is flat out awesome!

And that looks like the Alaska Range on the bottom, so feel free to send it up here to me and I'll get it on my mantl...er, into the museum!

Beautiful work, Ernie! I have one complaint though, the pictures are too small. Make your pictures larger so we can see all the glorious beauty without our glasses. I not talking about the thumbnails but the pictures need to be bigger, man. When you got something that pretty make it big enough to crow about....:p ;) :D :D :D

Nice Ernie...As I went out to get the paper this morning I looked at the black walnut tree in my front yard and just smiled. Those dang walnuts are a real pain every other year ya know.

From what I can tell they look great, but I wish you could post larger pictures so I could see the figure in the bowls better.

Bigger pics. I am having a bit of trouble determining the size of the picture. In this case I resized to 600 X 397 and it came out to 103 KB, but on other pics, that size is way to big to post.

Ernie your killing me with the pics of those bowls. I'm eyeing the neighbors walnut tree. Hope he don't see me with a plumbob trying to figure how to fell it.

Now you're cooking with gas!!!! Now I can see the curl in the bowl that I thought I saw through these old myopic eyes.:p :o Even more beautiful, Ernie.

Ernie try this program. With it you can go ahead and take your pictures in high resolution and still shrink them down to viewable size. Here is the web address for Pixresizer.

Sanded to 400, raised the grain, then 600, 5 coats spray lacquer, buffed.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Very beautiful, for sure. I like the bowls with the bark left around the rim. What keeps it from eventually peeling, flaking or falling off? The finish?

I really love that bowl!

Mike, I have some extra walnut that I can bring down when those eucalyptus are cut. It'd be nice if they were going to push those over so you could get the root ball.

Paul, I fill the area where the bark attaches with CA glue per Glenn Hodges instruction in a different thread. I couldn't tell you whether or not it will eventually separate, but I guess I'll find out with this one because it will stay here.

Thanks again everyone.
