 I was thinking that maybe I should get a drill press table. I seem to be spending too much time clamping scrap wood jigs to cob something together so I can drill holes on a pattern basis. Both Grizzly and Rockler's mini table would seem to fit the bill.:p Any helpful comments?

Earlier posts point to a way-too cheap offer for a DP table--$29.95. I orderd one--not here yet.

It looks very basic--quality- = unknown

You need to search for this as I don't have it any more--wait--just found it--

try www.grizzly.com (http://www.grizzly.com) #H7827 about $40 w/shipping.

Ordered the Grizzly drill press table Tuesday, got a note from them Wednesday saying they were backordered until the week of February 24th, then got another message early today saying it had shipped and should be here Tuesday the 21st. As other folks mentioned in the earlier thread (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=31249), I don't have the scrap handy to build one, and buying the materials would cost more than buying it from Griz.

Hi Gary,

Most of my drilling tasks involve smaller items. For years I have used a cross vise mounted to my DP table. This provides easy clamping and X-Y adjustments. I made a small table with a fence to clamp in the vise for some jobs.

I got a note that my DP table from Grizzly had shipped also, and should show up in my office in Simi Valley, CA on Tuesday.

The cross vise looks interesting too, and will probably be added to my wish list ... I have a couple of HF stores close to me, and these look like reasonable quality items (not all of their stuff does!)

Don't get one...make one. Simple project that pays off big time...drill presses were never designed for woodworking in the table department. Adding a 24" wide by about 18" deep table is a piece of cake and you can do it with scraps. Mine was built that way about 5 years ago. Four bolts into blind nuts secure it to the original metal table and the fence uses a couple of toilet bolts and wing nuts that ride in routed tee-slots. Only the fasteners "cost money", although I suspect that they were already on-hand when I built it.
