Recap - I got a brand new Craftsman 22114 - all 337 lbs of it (see my other post). Here's part 1 of to saga of moving this beast into my basement shop.

We begin our journey where the delivery guy left the big 'ole box. In my garage. After removing the outermost cardboard box, you are staring at a steel frame with everthing inside:

This thing is REALLY packed! Congrats to Orion for the design of the shipping container. Even if it is a brute!

The steel frame uprights are bolted to the bottom frame, so that comes off pretty easy. Under the cardboard cover at the top is the main part of the saw table:

Note that there is a big box across the front and a smaller box on the (left) side. The smaller box appears to be the stand and dust chute. The larger box is the rip fence and the extension tables (it's heavy too).

Removing those boxes, we get (drumroll.....):

TA-DA!!!

I checked with (Orion) Customer Support and you CAN remove the top (4 hex head bolts and it comes right off - so they tell me) to lighten the load. Still not sure if that will be necessary or not. It would cut the weight of the heaviest piece to about 100-125 lbs (very managable with a handtruck - even on stairs).

ALSO - they told me that there is a NEW manual that has additional information (like how to align the table to the blade). They will email it to you if you call and ask.

On Sunday - my friends and I will tackle moving "the beast" down to the basement. More pictures and assembly photos will follow.

Good luck on the move Brian.

Too bad more manufacturers don't pack like that. A little more expensive I guess, but it sure makes a neat package.

Well, we got it into the shop and nobody got hurt. Although the cat didn't like being locked up for over an hour (he likes to run outside, so we "detained" him). And it was colder than a well-diggers posterior today (it was Soooo nice on Thursday).

We ended up removing the top and the red cover on the right (see the photo of the saw). The top is HEAVY and the red cover is just plastic.

Once we did that - we managed to move everything without resorting to a handtruck. Nothing was all that heavy once we got to that point. But it did take two people.

Details and pictures to follow....
