Veneer Sequence Question

Good afternoon everyone,

I recognize I'm being a little lazy here and could just try it and see how it turn out, but has anyone edge-banded MDF or plywood before veneering. If so, how has it turned out? Can you see the edge of the veneer? Is the veneer edge durable or will it chip?

I've done quite a bit of veneer work, but have always veneered first and then added edge banding. Thanks for thoughts, experience, and ideas. All the best. Dave.

Veneer it first and then edge band is more typical...If you are worried abot the edge banding...cut a thin plant on molding and trin flush with the veneer.

i've done it both ways - but it depends on what i'm needing. when i need a stout piece of wood around the perimieter of the substrate - maybe for some hinges) i'll glue it on the edges - the veneer over the whole thing. i've not had any problems and if the grain patterns match it really blends in well.
