This just arrived via Pony Express and was totally unexpected. Very very cool!

It's a piece of Mesquite about 6" by 12" and the growth rings are about 40 per inch.

George - your note didn't mention how long ago the piece was harvested. With the sealed end grain it's hard to fathom a guess. Any chance you recall that factoid?

Thanks, buddy. Looks like I owe you a bowl of Elberta Peach.

My pleasure, Andy.

I think the tree fell about three or four weeks ago. My friend gave it to me in one long log.

When I cut your piece, I sliced off about two inches of the original cut and sealed both ends with green wood sealer within five minutes of cutting.

I figured you might like something from the DRY part of the country.

Enjoy.

Andy, it's mesquite, rough turn it, soak it, and finish it. That's the great thing about it. It's so stable that when it drys there is very little movement.
