Brand new member, this is my first visit to the site. This site was recommended to me by a fried. This looks like an excellent site and great information and very friendly people. Thanks Jack for the recommendation.

I have recently built a new work bench using the plans from the New Yankee Workshop. The plans call for a 9" Bench Screw. The one on New Yankee was purchsed from Woodcraft, but Woodcraft no longer sells the 9" version. Anyone know where I can purchase a 9" Bench Screw?

Thanks for the help.

In Christ,
Bryan

Welcome!

Check a local screw supply store. A few years ago, I bought a 3' peice of 1" acme threaded rod and some nuts to fit for about $15 or $20. I don't remember exactly. If you don't have a local store, you can order one from McMaster Carr, but it'll be a bit more expensive.

Hope this helps...

Hey Bryan, I think my Dad has one. I can check on Saturday and let you know. Not sure on the exact length or condition. It was rather rusty the last time I saw it, but might clean up well.

Hi,

I recently bought four bench screws at Busy Bee for $13 (Can) each. Took 4 months for delivery. Check with them and if they can't supply quickly email me and we'll work something out.

Check with Surplus Center as they stock a 1" X 10 1/2" acme threaded rod with nut. Item #1-1746, $8.95 in 2005 cat. A little welding and you have a bench screw. www.surpluscenter.com (http://www.surpluscenter.com)

Bryan , If all else fails, order the one from Woodcraft and adjust the plans of the bench to fit the longer screw. Lie Nielsen also sells bench hardware.

Hey Brian, sent a pm. In a nutshell, Pretty rusty but cleaned up very well. Looks to be about 12" of thread, so I don't know if this will work for you. Haven't figured out posting pics, but I could probably email some to you.
