Hi people. I thought I'd compose a few lines to introduce myself to you all. I hale from Charlevoix, Michigan and am currently residing in Groton, Ma. 30 years as a journeyman pipefitter/welder interspaced with short runs as a cop, a bar owner, and a pool player (hustler). The bar paid the most but the free booze was a deterrent. Woodworking came about as a substitute for the bottle. Life goes on! Been 4 years now and I have jumped into this craft with both feet. When I started I didn't have the necessary machinery so I decided to build what I needed. So far that has produced a 20" bandsaw, an 8" jointer , a scroll saw, an 89" belt edge sander, a 12" disk sander, a drum sander, a router table, a sharpening system, a miter box for my CM, and a dizzying array of jigs and hand tools. Oh yes, there are some pieces of furniture and other wooden objects also. I hang around Wood Central a lot (the pond was drained when I became aware of it). So, I,m the new guy and I go by 'Marc in Mass'. My forte' is metalwork so don't be shy about asking for info. I am studying wood drying procedures and am in the process of building a solar kiln (Gene Wengert is my guru) and in a few years will know if I learned anything. I hope to become a really proficient wood craftsman and ( being retired) am devoting 8 - 10 hrs daily to that end. I literally get up , get my coffee, and go to the shop each day, just like a job. So thats me. Glad I'm here. Marc in Mass

Good Morning Marc, welcome to the "Creek". Building your own machines sounds like fun, post some pictures of them when you can. I know the retired and still working feeling, not a lot of difference from a real job except when I complete the last customers job I can close the door and come back when I want to, a week or two later if I want.
Just join right in here and make yourself to home, glad to have you.

Hey Marc,

East side or west side of Groton? I pass through the west side (Peperell end) daily on may way to work in Nashua.

I've been known on ocassion to stop by the Old Fashoned Milk Paint Company to pick up a bag or two of paint.

Welcome,

Carl Eyman

I like the fact you've made so many of your tools. This is a sat5isfaction most of us bypass. We are poorer by it.

WELCOME TO THE CRECK!!!!!!!!!!
As my Grandma would say.

Glad to see someone aboard that like to build his tools.

In the early 60's I was studing for my mechanical engineering degree in college, but was side tracked into woodworking as a cabinetmaker for 30 years. I still have a place in my mind for getting back to my "roots" in machine work, but I do not have my money invested in the machine tools, all woodworking tools.

So get some pic of you work!!!!! I know I will enjoy seeing them!!!!
