Walnut hollow form with just a touch of curl on top, another from my hurricane score. Wanted to try something a little different for the collar, used a scrap piece of Masur Birch from Mike Stafford. 7 1/2" tall by 6" wide. Buffed Watco finish.

Another WOW Travis! That's how walnut should look. And the form is breathtaking.:)

Great looking HF. Great wood and I like the colar. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 9.95. The reason for the .05 deduct is there is to much glare on the photo.:D

Can't really score that one Travis,, it's beyond numbers.

Hey Travis - I'm gonna hold off commenting on this one until I find something about it that I don't like.

Don't hold your breath.:D

I don't know enough new superlatives to properly describe each piece of your work, Travis. They just seem to get better and better. This is a beautiful piece of art. That is the best opinion I can give.:D

Wonderful, as usual, Travis.
Can you or someone tell me how the collar work is done? Is it made separately and then glued on or is it glued on and then turned? I don't think I've seen that discussed, but everyone except me seems to know how to do it.

Thanks everyone.
Joe, I turn my collars separately then glue them in. There are several different methods, but I start mine between centers by jamming it against my chuck jaws with the tailstock. I turn a tenon the thickness off the vessel walls and the diameter of the opening. I then reverse it and either grip the tenon with the chuck or use a glue block, drill the opening and turn the top profile.

Beautiful, Travis. Your forms are so...comfortable to look at and "reach out and touch", as it were. Wonderful!

That's wonderful Travis. I have some walnut, but it don't look like that when I get done with it. I think I'll take mine back.

A Travis, know I have already stoped by and commented on this most pleasing piece. However, I have been giving it some thought. Seeing that I live in the land of corn and beans, I have made a decision. I am going to join one of those storm chasing groups. One truck, one chain saw, CB, and look out storms, hear I come. :D
