A few months ago I had problems with a Bosch sander and thought it had electrical problems as sometimes it worked ok and then was sluggish spinning up to speed. Yesterday I went to use it and it would only start up if it was off the wood and would spin extremely fast, like the pad brake wasn't working. Removing the pad I found this bearing that was behind the part the pad is fastened to was seized up. Some WD-40 started to free it up. The bearing is held in with a ring and two screws but I couldn't pull it out with pliers. Trying to blow the crap off around it, I placed the rubber tipped air hose in the threaded hole for the disc and the bearing popped out! A rubber shield on the back of the bearing was removed and 3 in 1 oil added. The bearing wasn't completely dry of lubricant, must have had a little wood dust in it. That fine dust gets into the smallest areas!
