OK, I know these didn't require much skill to make, but it was fun. The first is bloodwood and figured eucalyptus, with a bevel on the bottom (and top) to angle the piece back for better viewing. It has a thermometer and clock. The 2nd is blooadwood and maple, and has a slot for paper and 2 holes for holding pens or pencils.

Ok, so they're simple to make. They still look nice and are worth showing here. Well done!

John,
I sell a lot of simular clocks at craftshows. Mostly out of cut-offs. People love'em, esp. when they are laminated exotics. A great way to capitalize on waste. These look great.

Thanks guys for the kind words.

Robert, I was thinking of doing something similar regarding craft shows. Of course, my skills need to improve, and I need to be able to knock out a bunch of these. If you have any tips on marketing something like this at craft shows, I'd like to hear them.

Sorry Lou, I'm not sure I know what you mean by "works".

Those look great, John. I like the contrast between the bloodwood and the other, lighter materials, especially the maple. It really sets the piece off!

BTW, Lou is asking about the clock mechanisms when he says, "works".

Thanks for clearing that up, Jim.

Lou, to answer your question:

The inserts were purchased from Klockit.

The clock/thermometer inserts are 3.5" brushed brass chamfered bezels: http://www.klockit.com/products/dept-74__sku-AAALL.html

The other clock insert is a 2.5" alarm clock movement:

I liked the quality of the brass inserts, but was a little disappointed with the quality of the 2.5" clock.

Nice job John! If yo get into production mode, think about offering, for an additional fee of course, an engraved plate/plaque. Most trophy shops will engrave pretty much anything on a wide variety of in-stock plates for just a few bucks. Personalized or value added items really increase their worth and your bottom line!

John,
I sent you an e-mail regarding tips for selling these.

Simple but elegant. I don't know anyone who wouldn't be pleased to have one on their desk.
