View Full Version : Saw Purge - Cleaned - Anybody want a saw?

Here are the saws I've clean and inspected from the saw purge. Note that these are all used. They are all pretty straight. If I say they are sharp, that just means they will cut wood. They could all benefit from a good sharpening. If I say they need sharpened, that means the works. Jointed, sharpened, set. There still may be a little rust between the teeth. If a handle was broken and I repaired it, I will say so. If it has a crack that I didn't fix, I will mention it. Some of these saws are 100 years old, some are newer. (Ones with rounded handles are older). The plates are pretty straight, but a few may have a minor bend.
If anyone interested please send me a PM with your address and tell me what saw number you want. These saws are free to good homes/shops. First Come - First Served.

So far I have given away 11 saws to seven different people. These are totally free, and that includes shipping. Why don't I at least charge shipping? Read the following:

The following is something I sent to another person I gave tools to that kind of explains my thoughts:

Napoléon "Les outils appartiennent à l'homme qui peut les utiliser."

Napoleon "The tools belong to the man who can use them."

Taking that quote and modifying it a little (by me), it can be said as:

“The tools belong to the person who can use them, is willing to learn to use them, or is willing to teach others to use them”.

*Another part of the answer is more philosophical. In Buddhism it is believed you will be reincarnated. Each time you are reincarnated, if you have been a good person, you will end up in the next life at a higher level. To be a good person you try to be peaceful, respectful, and treat others well. If you have ever seen a Buddhist Monk with a “donation” bowl, you may have noticed that they don’t say “thank you” to the person donating. The reason is, that by helping the Monk, they are actually helping themselves. To put it another way, giving is its own reward.

So I hope some of you will pay forward yourselves. Help someone without expecting a reward.
The person I originally sent this to did a very generous thing and helped a charity.
The littlest thing can have a very big impact.
Not expecting any of you to do anything immediately, but sometime in the future please help someone.

I understand Eric. I too have renovated 8 classic saws and 16 pipe wrenches (when you live next to 5 refineries lovely pipe wrenches abound). I give them to young people so they don’t need to buy a circular saw. The appreciation of old quality instills a breath of fresh air in their thinking.

Good job William. We need to get the younger people involved more with working with their hands. Not necessarily woodworking either.

#9 and #12 are now claimed.

That leaves #2 and #13.

#2 needs the most work. Needs sharpened and set. Other than that, they are all good straight saws.
