I want to sharpen my own jointer and planer blades so I was lookking into the Makita 9820 for $259, like this one here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000223JC/ref=pd_sbs_hi_1/103-8914187-3857467?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=228013

Then I come across this:
Makita G2017 Blade Sharpener for $249
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000E6TE6/qid=1139319818/sr=1-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-8914187-3857467?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=228013

What is going on? Is this the identical machine? Is it reconditioned?

FYI, I tried the promo codes but nothing works for this sharpener, although it looks like the $30 or $40 off should apply. I sent an email to amazon. It qualifies for free shipping, so the Makita at around $220 total sounds like a bargain.

The sharpener you want apparently just isn't a tool that applies to the sale; It's not a "Power Saw", "Accessory or Hand Tool", or "Woodworking Power Tool". It's a tool that falls (just) outside the categories, according the the mice type.

The difference in the price is Amazon selling the sharpener directly and Grizzly selling it through Amazon.

But yes, the free shipping does apply.:D :D

Looks like the one with the "G" number is sold by Grizzly. The other with the Makita number is sold by Amazon.com. Same machine, different sources?

Yeah. Grizzly is what Amazon calls a "Third Party Seller". Usually, there are no special pricing that goes on with these sellers. Very frustrating sometimes when trying to get a tool for a sale price like Tom is trying to do. Sometimes a tool (or any other item) will only be sold by a Third Party Seller. I spent 10 minutes one time trying to enter the tool into my cart only to look up, finally, at the top of the page and see that it's a TPS. What a bonehead I am sometimes.:D :D :D
