View Full Version : Jet JWBS-14CS Bandsaw - Has anybody replaced the capacitor?

My JWBS-14CS only hums when it's turned on. Off, the pulleys move freely. If I manually spin the pully while it's humming, it will start and run normally. I'm no motor expert, but seems like a capacitor issue to me.

I can't find the part number on any of the diagrams and intend to call Jet Monday to see if I can buy a replacement capacitor.

Has anybody had this problem and solved it?

Thanks,
Dave

I've had that problem on my 1 HP dust collector and my old bandsaw. The capacitor should have a label on it with all the info you need to buy a replacement, no need to buy from the OEM, they are available from electrical supply or motor repair shops.

Find a online chart for motor hp and voltage to figure the size cap needed. Get one rated well over line voltage. If lazy post hp and volts here for others to look up for you.
If needed remote mount the cap with longer leads. I assume this is closed base.

The centrifugal switch could be bad also. More likely, and easier to check, the start capacitor first.

Thanks for the responses. Had a good conversation with Jet and they said just what you're saying.

We all assume single phase?

It's a 14" bandsaw, probably pre-wired as 115v..
