As this was in need..
515410
Arm is a bit chewed up...thumbscrew is all the way in, before it gets tight on the arm....back end of the arm has gotten too fat, would need driven out to replace..so
515411
Needed to cut this blank down for length, to match the old one, then..
515412
A Stanley No.3, Type 11 to plane to final size AND shape...

The old pin?
515413
Was too corroded and bent to re-use...so...
515414
Old Allen Wrench, of about the right size..cut for length, one end sharpen up. The problem with that thumbscrew? was too worn down on the end...sanded a few layers off, until a thread and a half stuck of inside the opening...
515415
gave the rest a good clean up...the drill to install the new pin/cutter..
515416
Fit was tight enough that a hammer was needed to drive the pin into place...

515417
Gave the "New & Improved" Marking Gauge a coat of Witch's Brew Finish...and called in done...

Thanks for looking in..

Nice job Steven. Did you shape the pin as a point or put a flat on it?

steven c newman
02-13-2024, 11:20 AM
Point, with a flat...
rounded to a point, then add in the flat...

Gave it a work out this evening...
515506
Lines are fine enough that I needed a pencil to darken them up...so both the Camera and I can see them...

Couple other tools got used tonight, as well...
515507
Layout tools, and...
515508
I think this is a Disston No. 68 Gents saw...and
515509
This is a Stanley No. 3, Type 11...hard at work...

steven c newman
02-15-2024, 9:03 PM
4 corners dovetailed..
515534
Will need to add a arm rest, though..
515535
After that? We'll have to see...

Main chisel used to chop the waste? 1/4" "Cut Easy" socket chisel....and for the narrow stuff...Buck Brothers 1/8" Sash Mortise chisel...
515536
Was a busy 90 minutes IN the shop...

steven c newman
02-19-2024, 10:15 PM
About done with the box...
515725
Rack to hold both Gauges...needed glued in place..
515726
Then a bottom panel glued on...
515727
Then mark the lid to size..
515728
Planes to joint to the lines..
515729
Stanley No. 5-1/2c, Type 11, and Stanley No. 3, Type 11...

Then pull out a Mitersaw..
515730
As the lid needed "beefed up" a bit..
515731

Camera Died today...otherwise there would be photos of all the hardware that was installed today..
515732
Lid has been sized to the box....

Stay tuned..

Next rehab? Road Trip to Brandt, Ohio....stopped at a Junk Shop....price tag said $5
515733
You can barely make out the 5- on the sole...
515734
Paid $4 for this....
515735
Same size as my Stanley No. 60-1/2...
Might take a full day IN the Rehab Shop?

BTW...Remember them funny plastic handles Great Neck used on their No. 4 hand planes? The fellow had one of those planes, was in "Mint" condition...$25....Pass...

steven c newman

OK..after further review...Block plane has Black Japanning,,,eccentric bolt is solid brass...no model number is stamped on the left side of the body. Iron has the clipped corner box with Stanley inside...Depth adjuster has both STANLEY and Made in USA.

Less than an hour IN the Rehab Shop..
515751
Seems to match up well with my Stanley No. 60-1/2 Cordovan...
515752
Sole came out nicely enough, for a block plane...
515753
For $4..this MIGHT be a "Keeper"?

steven c newman
02-20-2024, 11:44 AM
Lid fitted, hardware installed..
515754
Front view (Phone camera, still learning the "How-tos")
Hinge side..
515755
Set of Fancy Tools, needs a Fancy case..
515756
Yes, there are handles, one on each end..
515757
Awaiting a couple of brushes, to add a finish...and maybe Brand a Logo on the lid?
Stay tuned..

steven c newman
02-22-2024, 3:18 PM
First coat of stain..did not come out as dark as I wanted it to..
515866
Might give it a second shot...?
Inside?
515867
Will see, how things go..

Branding iron..
515868
Or, is it Branding Brass?
515869
BANDIT'S Dungeon WOOD SHOP...
Stay tuned...

515870

David Carroll

steven c newman
02-24-2024, 2:40 PM
Photos?
515958
Second coat of stain did not darken much...this is after a coat of "Warm Gloss" poly..
515959
and, as for Box #2?
515960
First corner is done...3 more to go...have Laundry Detail after a bit, might see how much else I can do, today?

Rest of the household is down sick...trying to avoid them.
Stay tuned..

steven c newman
02-24-2024, 10:39 PM
Laundry Detail this evening...so, the other 3 corners are done. Dryer makes the shop to warm to do much work...
Entire household is down with some sort of bug...

Will see how Sunday goes....
Stay tuned...

BTW: I want to find a way for the tripod to hold the Smart Phone, so I can work, and get steady, in focus photos...Samsung is the brand name.

steven c newman
02-24-2024, 11:06 PM
Photos?
515987
Tripod, needs a bracket to hold the Samsung Smart Phone
515988
Side view of the new box...all 4 corners are done..
515989
My Dovetail Tool Kit...
515990
View from the end of the box...

Hard to tell when the camera is in Movie/Video Mode...had a video that I didn't need..still learning.

Wondering IF the pictures are better focused than the old camera?

Box is now in the clamps, letting it sit a day.

LOTS of clamps...needed the mallet to assemble things, too.

steven c newman
02-25-2024, 8:58 PM
Box No. 2 is sitting in the clamps..
516052

And...
516053
These were sharpened back up..along with..
516054
These 2 "Beater Chisels"
Bench is a bit messy, right now..
516055
Need to start putting a few things away...

Still getting the "hang" of using the phone as a camera....

steven c newman
02-26-2024, 2:10 PM
Box #2 is out of the clamps..cleaned and squared up...and a 1/4" plywood bottom panel has been glued up...

Ripped a few strips to thicken the lid...

Film when I remember to haul my Phone along to the shop, next time...

steven c newman
02-26-2024, 5:06 PM
Compared to it's "Twin"..
516088
But..seems to need a little something?
516089
Maybe add a ruler to the new one?

The Old one is "Special"..
516090
Show off....No. 65 SW by Stanley..

steven c newman
02-26-2024, 5:10 PM
Clamps and cauls ( almost like "Boots & Saddles"?)
516091
Bottom panel is getting glued in place..

Parts for the "thickened " Lid..
516092
Need to get the Mitre Box out...and cut a few 45 degree corners...then glue these in place.

Stay tuned..

Thanks for the update Steven. Sounds like good progress if they let her out. Any idea on how long her recovery might be?
