A farmer friend with a sawmill has a large poplar burl. It's about 3 ft long and 3 ft across but is definitely not solid. He wants to know if I could use it for anything. Any chance it's worth the effort to harvest it?
Thanks

Poplar burl can be very nice wood. At 3ft by 3ft you can very likely get some good pieces even if it is not all solid.

I get down to tiny pieces for ear rings, Christmas ornaments, and pens, so a rotten core will still provide good material.

Thanks. I don't turn very often and no where as good as most of ya'll. I'll see what I can do with some of this. If nothing else but a little something for the farmer whose family have been there since the 1700's.
