I came across this shop tour video by the wood artist and segmented turner Jerry Bennett in which he shows an example of the armatures he uses for his fantastic looping sculptures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGiD27q2iRc&t=1072s The armature shows up at 9:20. I suspect that the process involves turning tapered spindles, cutting them into angled segments with center bores, threading onto the armature and gluing the pieces back together followed by further shaping and sanding. Am I on the right track?
