My brother is a foodie, and loves to cook. This salt cellar was made for him for Christmas. A few days before Christmas we were at his home, and saw a new salt box sitting on his counter. So he got a pepper mill instead. My wife laid claim to the salt box, so now it sits on our counter instead. It is made from curly maple, and walnut. It is about 4" across 3.5" tall and has a lacquer finish. Comments and critique are always welcome.

Brian -- It looks great. I really like the walnut accent. My only critique is with the tenon being on the lid rather than the body of the box. With a salt cellar, I fear the salt would accumulate in the mortise at the top of the box and will interfere with the lid's fit.

Spectacular looking piece. Time will tell if David's accumulation concern is an issue, OTOH, it will be easier to clean the trapped salt back into the cellar rather than have it fall on the countertop. :)

I don't think the lid will be a problem. Beautiful piece.
