Several folks I've talked to thought Basswood would be too soft to turn. I acquired several pieces off of Phil Duffy and wanted to try to make some larger turned boxes. Even with my tools newly sharpened, I still got some tearout. After getting the approximate shape, I went to the old reliable 100 grit gouge and eliminated the tearout. Once that was accomplished, I went through the usual progression of grits until I achieved a nice smooth finish. Be careful though. Any ... and I mean any, touches with a tool or other object will leave an impression in wood! I consider this a box that will become "rustic" very quickly with appropriate dings and nicks in it. Thanks for looking, be safe and have fun. I wish I was going to be able to get to the 5 Barns Picnic next weekend. All of you have a safe trip.

Well Done, my friend! Who would have thought basswood could be made into something besides a duck! Phil
