I am restoring an old Abernathy model70d vise and notice that there are no holes to attach a wooden plate on the back jaw. After looking at a few other manufacturers that seems to be the norm. Does anyone have information on this. Most pictures only show the steel or sometimes a front wood block but not the rear.
Notice on mine that there are two countersunk holes for mounting but no holes to attache wooden blocks.

Easy enough to use the mounting bolts to hold on an extra piece of wood. A little more trouble to replace. No reason not to drill a few small mounting holes in the back jaw.

Another way is to counter-bore the jaw material for rare earth magnets and glue them into the c-bores. Epoxy or CA can be used. I like CA because it’s quick.
