View Full Version : Unisaw - storage under extension table

I have a left tilt Unisaw with the 50" extension table to the right. It's on the Delta mobile base. I keep looking at all that room under the extension table, and wondering what other Creekers may have built for a storage cabinet. Surely someone has a nifty solution?

Thanks!
Randy

I've got a craftsman tool box underneath mine without the casters so it would fit. I use it for storage of blades and accessories for the saw. My saw is not mobile so I could remove the casters but there might be room on one of those boxes for you to remove the original casters and then use a smaller set instead. Your mobile base will make your saw slightly higher than mine is too.

Jim, is that a 24" planer to the right of your saw? Tod, myself and others had a discussion about this layout relative to the table saw. Do you share a DC pipe for both tools and where does the power feed from?

Randy,

This is what I came up with.

Right now, I have an old cabinet under the extension table of my LT Jet cabinet saw...it was originally under a big-fat-old copy machine years ago. It's screwed to my mobile base (HTC/Jet) and is where I keep my blade carrier and other table saw accessories. There is enough space between the top of the cabinet and the extension table to hold frequently used things like my miter guage, feather boards and fence extensions. Someday I'd like to have a more "custom" cabinet in that space, even if I move to a sliding saw, but it's not a priority project for me.

Thanks, folks! I knew there'd be some great ideas here. Now to build...

Randy, check out the May 2003 issue of Popular Woodworking. Theres an under the saw cabinet project that might help out. I only have about 25% of it done after three years.

rob, the drops from the main trunk are separate, the main trunk is 12", the planer is on it`s own drop the saw shares it`s drop with a 4" for the w&h and also a floor sweep. the power is mounted to the support column....02 tod

I just added a simple shelf, since I move the saw a lot. But could easily add a bank of drawers. The shelf is bolted to the saw cabinet and the table legs.

John

P.S. If I did it again I would lower the shelf a few inches for a little more clearance getting stuff on and off, I use to store a router table under the saw, but now I have a disk sander, just keeps changing...

I don't have an actual picture handy, but I have these CAD renderings which are probably better showing what I did than my photography skills would allow.

My tablesaw is a right tilt model. I had to leave some room so I can get the motor cover off. I also had to make a funky dust fitting to route the duct as low as possible so I could fit the cabinet in.

cheers, Jeff

Wow! 'how much CFM you pulling!

i dunna know? enough:) the pump is an old cast iron babbit bearing unit with a 24" fan and a 13" inlet. the fan blades are 3/8 welded steel spinning on a 1 1/2" shaft. i`ve got it geared up a bit off a 3450 motor, the motor has a 7" pulley and the pump has a 5". maybe somebody smarter than me can figure it out? .....02 tod
